Iisak designs custom-made tableware for restaurants and hotels. The same designs are sold through iisak.com during specific sale periods, designed and handmade in Finland together with local artisans.
After years in industrial design across Sweden, Italy and Denmark, I moved back to Finland curious about how our everyday objects are made. The craftsmanship here was remarkable, yet surprisingly hard to find. I wanted to understand why.
The answer came, somewhat by accident, through gastronomy. Meeting head chefs at some of the country's best restaurants, I saw the same pattern. Their cooking was rooted in local ingredients and traditions, but the plates and glasses they served on rarely reflected that. Much of it was made in large, distant facilities, and the same glass and ceramics filled dining rooms everywhere, generic and disconnected from the places they were used. Along the way, we have lost our connection to the people who make the things we use every day, and with it, to the objects our meals are shared around.
The chefs felt it too. They wanted tableware that was as distinct as their food, something that belonged to their restaurant and set it apart.
That is where my work begins. I design every piece around a specific theme, gastronomy or brand, and bring each design to life together with a network of independent glassblowers and ceramists.

Behind every product, there is an immense amount of work put into it, from first ideation and research, to mould making and finally working with local artisans to bring the idea to life.
